Local Development Plans
Shaping the Development of Housing in Communites
The Scottish Borders Local Development Plan (LDP) was adopted on 12 May 2016 and sets out Scottish Borders Councils' policies on development and land use within the Scottish Borders. these plans are meant to take into account both the practicalities of developing a site and the views of residents who live in the community.
Although the LDP was adopted in 2016 the consultation process, which included a period of public consultion, actually began in 2005. The area of Broughton to be included in the LDP was finalised in 2008.
More information on the LDP. can be found HERE.

Since the consultation process for the LDP took place so long ago there is not a lot of readily available information on the decision-making process of land allocation for potential future development. Information obtained from the Scottish Borders Council following a Freedom of Information Request can be viewed HERE.

LDP2
Local development plans are intended to run for a fixed period. Scottish Borders Council is in the process of finalising a new LDP which is intended to run for approximately 5 years. The consultation period for this new local development plan has now passed. Due to a lack of public engagement, the new LDP for Broughton will remain the same. This essentially means that decisions made 15 years ago will influence how the village develops over the next 5 years.

The community has an opportunity to provide their vision of how they wish to see Broughton supported and developed through the production of a community place plan.
