Community Place Plans
Community-led proposals for the development and use of land
Community Place Plans are part of the Government’s wider work on planning reform and implementation of the Planning (Scotland) Act (2019), including steps to reduce conflict, improve community engagement and build public trust in planning matters. They offer the opportunity for a community-led, collaborative approach to shaping how communities develop.

Community Place Plans can support community aspirations on the big challenges for a future Scotland, such as responding to the global climate emergency and tackling inequalities. It is vital that local people have the opportunity to engage meaningfully and positive influence how their community develops. There is the potential to access quite significant amounts of levelling up / uplift funding that can be used to help support existing community assets, such as schools, but also develop new ones such as a community orchard or a youth facility. The scope of what can be included in the plan is quite broad and should reflect the breadth of needs of the community. The community place plan offers an opportunity to produce a cohesive and holistic vision for Broughton to ensure that it remains a viable and sustainable village in the future.

We are in the process of forming a placemaking committee to help develop a place pan for Upper Tweed. Ideally, it will consist of a variety of residents and UTCC members that are able to ensure the views of the community are accurately represented in the plan.
